When the swashbuckling Virender Sehwag retired, a lot of fans thought that they will miss his fearless instincts and desi charm forever. But the Nawab of Nazafgarh is making headlines with hilarious comments on players and teams. His commentary style mirrors his uninhibited batting. And he is at it again, as Virender Sehwag mocks Pakistan ahead of the epic clash between the two south asian giants.
During India’s innings against Bangladesh in warm up match, Sehwag took a dig at rivals Pakistan by saying, “India practicing with Pota before playing Beta.” This statement drew a lot of laughter on air in the commentary box. Later on, it sent social media into a tizzy as various people applauded his humorous take on a tense clash.
It may be recalled here that Sehwag had earlier congratulated the Indian women’s team for their comprehensive victory over Pakistan in the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers. He had then written in a tweet “Congratulations for defeating Pakistan by 7 wickets in Women’s World Cup qualifier 2017. Ab to Aadat Si Hai!”
Sehwag is among those rare commentators, for whom being biased while commentating doesn’t matter as he always takes India’s side during matches. During his stints in the Hindi commentary box, Sehwag has come up with comments full of quirks and quips. Commenting on Jadeja’s over rate, he once said, “Chips ka Packet aur Jadeja ka over kab khatam hota hai maalom nahi hota”.
In India vs New Zealand Test Series, Sehwag trolled New Zealand all rounder Mitchell Santner saying, “Rohit Sharma Santner ka santra banake choodenge.” If a bowler went for runs, Sehwag didn’t spare him, ” Phate Collar aur pite hue Bowler ko koi izzat nahi deta.” If a fielder makes a mistake, Viru has his own way of descibing it, ” Yeh itna asaan catch tha ki Sholay ka thakur b pakad leta.”
India will start their campaign in Champions Trophy with a clash against their arch rivals, Pakistan, on June 4. With Virender Sehwag in commentary box, things are expected to be interesting both on and off the ground.
