AB’s look of shock was enough to tell the story, as the legendary South African look quite bemused at the recent turn of events.
Ngidi was ecstatic though, as the youngster once again got the big wicket of Virat Kohli. The tall pacer troubled Kohli in the previous test match, and continued to discomfort the Indian skipper.
De Villiers looked a little embarrassed, as he sat on the floor still trying to digest his earlier drop catch. His team mates came over and tried to cheer him up, as AB took some time to gather himself, before he eventually got up and congratulated Ngidi for his wicket.
Earlier in the day, Kohli rode his luck on his way to a very important half-century, as he and Pujara put on a very important 84-run partnership.
Walking in at 13-2, Virat Kohli knew that he had a job on his hands today. The Indian skipper tried to launch a counter attack himself, but after playing and missing a couple of deliveries, Kohli settled down and played safe.
Kohli survived the first session after he was dropped by Philander off Rabada. The Indian skipper then survived another chance, when he took a wild swing at a poor delivery from Morkel.
And then ABD dropped what was a regulation catch, to prove that he is indeed human!
Soon after than, Kohli played a gorgeous cover drive to rub salt in AB’s wound, as Faf du Plessis must have expected the worst. While did play some exquisite shots en route to his 54, Kohli did give some chances to the bowlers.
Eventually his luck ran out, as Kohli went for another expansive drive of Ngidi. The Indian skipper had to depart the scene, as he knew that he missed out on a big innings.
In walked Ajinkya Rahane, as the Mumbai batsman walked in to face the music against the fired-up South African pace battery!
