Wayne Rooney’s return to Old Trafford; that was how the United vs Everton game was referred to in the build up and while all the attention was on whether Wayne Rooney would score at Old Trafford again, Valencia hogged all the headlines, scoring an absolute screamer in the 4th minute.
United were on the ball from the word go, passing it around, trying to get behind the Everton defence. A few balls placed wide in, but they couldn’t muster a clear shot at goal.
Matic then turned the ball around from the centre of the field to Valencia who took it on the half volley and sent an unstoppable effort past Jordan Pickford.
Valencia who was given the armband today scored his first goal at Old Trafford in nearly 4 years.
Jose Mourinho has developed a very good relationship with Valencia, entrusting him with right back duties from day one.
United would be hoping to shrug away the disappointment of their Stoke trip and register a thumping win at Old Trafford today. And with the way they have started the game, it looks like they could put a lot past Everton tonight.
