Finnish commentators go crazy as Kimi Raikkonen wins US GP

Kimi Raikkonen presented the F1 world with the most romantic moment of the 2018 season, overtaking Hamilton on Turn 1, holding track position all through and winning the United States GP in dramatic fashion.

Ferrari and Raikkonen were obviously thrilled with the result, as Kimi had secured his first race win in 113 race starts, and after a long gap of 5 years.

An emotional Kimi blurted out ‘F**king finally’ on the team radio after his team congratulated  him for this super drive in Austin.

And while all of that was going on on the English broadcast all around the world, the Finnish commentators came up with some unadulterated celebrations of their own, complimenting Raikkonen for his brilliant drive.

“Räikkönen comes. Now we can celebrate, now we can be happy.

“Ferrari, Tifosi, everyone sing as Räikkönen drives across the chequered flag in P1. There it is! 21st win for Räikkönen. All-time winner for Finnish Formula 1 drivers.

“AAARRGH!!

“There, an amazing grand prix. Räikkönen is a legend and he wins this grand prix. 50th win for a Finnish driver, 21st win for Kimi Matias Räikkönen. And in what a way it comes!

“Domination of the race from the start until the chequered flag. Rises immediately to the lead, from the inside of Lewis Hamilton. After that not a single mistake. Perfect race! Räikkönen is number one! Verstappen, Hamilton, Vettel is the order after him.

“Drivers Championship’s resolution will be postponed to at least Mexico” they said(translation thanks to u/Koponewt).

Raikkonen was satisfied after the win, as it had been 5 years without a win despite having multiple podium finishes.

The last few years, Raikkonen had struggled for consistency, but this year, he has been pretty solid in the Ferrari car, able to challenge for race wins.

With the Finn moving to Sauber from 2019, the last 3 races of this season will be his last with Ferrari too, and he would be hoping to end things on a high, maybe get another race win under his belt.
