Gautam Gambhir doubts Virat Kohli’s leadership abilities ahead of India vs New Zealand World Cup semi-finals at Old Trafford, Manchester

Former Indian cricketer and current Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir has yet again passed a brazen statement which has not gone down well with a decent fraction of the Cricketing fraternity.

The 37-year-old has come up with a massive comment on the leadership abilities of the current India skipper Virat Kohli, just ahead of India vs New Zealand World Cup semi-final clash at Manchester.

Despite losing just a single match off the nine India has played so far in the marquee tournament, Gambhir doesn’t consider Kohli as the one who leads Team India from the front.

Kohli has Rohit and MS Dhoni behind him

During an interaction with the Hindi news channel TV9, Gambhir opined that Kohli seems to be a good captain of the national side only because he has the services of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni alongside him.

He further went on to say that, had he been a good enough captain, his IPL franchise should have won at least one title under his captaincy. RCB, in fact have finished at the bottom quite a few times in the twelve year old cash-rich league.

“Virat Kohli is a good captain for India only because he has MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma behind him. If you are talking about Kohli the captain, he would have won RCB an IPL title since he has taken over the captaincy there. Most of the times his team RCB has finished on number 8,” commented Gambhir during an interaction with TV9.

It is worth mentioning that Kohli has been the captain of the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since the 2013 edition, and yet has not won any title for his franchise in the seven seasons so far. Even in the recently concluded 2019 edition, his team finished 8th in the points table.

Gambhir felt that Kohli was lucky to get a long run as the RCB skipper and he should thank the franchise for sticking with him for so long.
