Watch: Gianluigi Buffon’s last-minute miracle save helps Juventus beat Bologna in their Serie A encounter last night at the Juventus Stadium.

Gianluigi Buffon made a sentimental return to the Serie A with Juventus after one campaign with PSG last season. The legendary shot stopper won the French League with the Parisian side. However, Buffon was determined to break Paolo Maldini’s Serie A appearance record.

Buffon would eventually surpass Maldini’s record in the match vs SPAL. However, Buffon was not done with his contributions to the side. The keeper was not bought back to Italy for the sole purpose of handing him a record but for his world class abilities between the sticks.

Table toppers Juventus are currently on a roll of victories in the Italian league. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Miralem Pjanic in the 19th and 54th minute of the match put them ahead. However, Danilo Larangeira’s 26th minute strike kept Bologna within touching distance of the Italian Champions.

With the game headed into extra time, Bologna came hard at the Bianconeri as they chased the equaliser. Bologna came so close to the leveller in the last minute of stoppage time. However, 41-year old Buffon produced an athletic save to keep Juventus in the lead.

The victory against Bologna has ensured Juventus still remain at the top of the table while Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan side remain close at their heels. With Conte at the helm, Inter look like worthy challengers to Juventus and it is likely that the Serie A will go down the wire this season.

It is with this prospect in mind that every point is priceless to both sides. If not for Buffon, the Bianconeri would have dropped 2 valuable points. The keeper has once again proved that age is but a number and class is permanent.
