Barcelona Transfer News: Valverde wants legendary Gianluigi Buffon at Nou Camp

Barcelona are considering to make a move for the free agent Gianluigi Buffon.

Barcelona are set to lose their backup goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen. The Dutch International has been constantly linked with a move away to Benfica and Manchester United and his departure looks inevitable in this window.

Manager Ernesto Valverde has been looking for a proper understudy to Marc Andre Ter Stegen for a while now and sees Gianluigi Buffon as a perfect replacement for the outgoing Cillessen. The Italian International confirmed his departure from Paris Saint Germain this summer and will be available as a free agent.

According to Sky Italia, Barcelona are in the initial stages to get in touch with his representatives to make a move in the future. The 41-year-old wants to continue his playing career, and has offers from around the world, including Brazil, China, Germany, and Turkey. He is not interested in a move to the Chinese Super League, as per the reports.

Fenerbahce is the only Turkish club to show concrete interest in signing the veteran as a free agent. However, Valverde feels that Buffon would act as a proper guide to Ter Stegen, who still has a decade left in his career.

Buffon is likely to demand high wages albeit about the prospect of playing as number two. The Blaugrana are offering him a year contract, but they are already suffering from their wage problems and Buffon, at this time, would be an unwelcomed move.

The Italian International made 25 appearances for PSG last season and started the game against Manchester United which ended in a defeat at Parc Des Princes. He made two disastrous errors which lead to an exit from the Champions League.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

The move to Barcelona looks a possibility and Valverde would welcome this transfer with open arms to strengthen this department.
