Gurney runs-out Cook

Gurney runs-out Cook: A massive collision ended up in a hilarious run-out at the striker’s end as visitors lost their ninth wicket.

During the 46th match of the ongoing season of the Big Bash League between Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder at Melbourne, Renegades fast bowler Harry Gurney ran out Thunder leg-spinner Jonathan Cook after a massive mid-pitch collision between him and pacer Gurinder Sandhu.

In which was the ninth Thunder wicket to fall, it pretty much summed up how the their innings had unfolded. Chasing a 141-run target, Thunder got bundled out for 113 in 19.1 overs. Fall of wickets at regular intervals in association with a below par run rate never let Thunder dominate in a chase which they would have liked to seal without much discomfort.

Teenage wicket-keeper batsman Baxter Holt, who came in to bat at No. 6, top-scored for his team scoring 37 (28) with the help of a four and three sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-27-3, Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers for Renegades.

After Renegades captain Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bat, his batsmen failed to take charge on a bowling wicket. The hosts were reduced to 90-7 in the 16th over, but it was Cameron Boyce’s maiden T20 half-century which saw them score 140-7 in 20 overs.

Declared the ‘Man of the Match’ for his efforts, Boyce ended up scoring 51* (22) with the help of four fours and five sixes. With bowling figures of 3-0-18-2, Cook was Renegades’ pick of the bowlers for the night.

The humorous run-out happened on the third delivery of the penultimate over when Sandhu completely missed a Gurney delivery which hit him on his thigh. In a bid to steal one leg bye, the batsmen’s attempt of running saw them clashing with each other as Gurney somehow managed to sneak between them.

Cook was left helpless in the middle of the pitch as the bowler passed the ball to Renegades wicket-keeper Sam Harper who affected the dismissal. Watch the full video below:
