WATCH: Huge accident at Spa Francorchamps, driver and marshal injured
During the Lamborghini Super Trofeo at Spa Francorchamps today a horrible incident occurred on the race track, where in Lamborghini Super Trofeo driver Fredrik Blomstedt and four marshals were injured in a super violent crash.
Blomstedt was leading the race and encountered some traffic in front of him, as he was on his way to lap a few set of cars who were driving quite close to each other.
One of the cars in that group made contact with Blomstedt as he tried to lap them and on contact Blomstedt’s car sped towards the barriers, hitting them with massive impact.
The worst part of it was that there were 4 marshalls standing near the ‘barrier area’ and they ran as fast as they could to a region of safety.
However, everything happened so suddenly, that they were caught unaware and one of the marshals was taken to the hospital along with Blomstedt.
All the people involved in the accident were given swift medical treatment and according to reports, no life threatening injuries took place.
The race was immediately called off with Blomstedt declared as the winner.
Check out the video:
More precautions need to be taken with respect to how and where the marshals are standing during race situations.
Clearly all of them were not standing behind the barriers, but on the grassy patch near the race track, something that is very dangerous and shouldn’t be done.
Hopefully the authorities put some strict measures in place after this incident so that of nothing of this sort happens in the future.
