The football transfer market has become a victim of inflation. In recent years several players have undergone record sales. Many of whom do not deserve their price. Yet, it has become accepted within the footballing world and is now seen as a norm rather than an anomaly.

However still, the world raised an eyebrow when 19-year old Joao Felix was purchased for £113 million by Atletico Madrid from Benfica. After all, he had only one full season of senior football under his belt. Many saw this as desperation from Atletico who were looking to bring in a replacement for Antoine Griezmann.

Convinced that they had unearthed a potential star, Atletico shelled out record sum for the Portuguese starlet making him the most expensive Portuguese footballer ever, and the fourth most expensive signing in history.

Many others would have balked under the pressure that comes with such a huge investment. However, Joao Fekix is not like most others. He has since thrived at Atletico and has been their standout performer in the pre-season and the teenager was at it once again in the game against Juventus.

In the 24th minute of the match, Joao Felix found the back of the net as he kicked a cross from Kieran Trippier into the goal.

Juventus equalised through Sami Khedira. However, Joao Felix wasn’t done and he converted Thomas Lemar’s beautiful cross into another goal.

With that Atletico sealed the game and have come out on top once again in their pre-season outings.

At 19, Felix breached a defence that included the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Giorgio Chiellini. Imagine the path of destruction he will create when he grows older and becomes a more seasoned player. Felix had earlier said that he desires to win the Ballon D’or. With performances like this, it should not be long before he gets his hands on one.
