With the first leg ending in a stalemate, it was important for Barcelona to start the second leg on the front foot and put the game to bed, with fixture congestion set to make an appearance in Spanish(and European) football.
Barcelona started the game on the front foot, passing the ball well within themselves and settling into a rhythm. Messi got a short away early on in the game, and it just seemed like it could be a long night for the Celta Vigo defence.
Barcelona were threatening to open the gates, coming up with incisive passing that threatened to open up the Celta defence.
And Leo Messi ultimately broke through, meeting the ball sweetly with his left foot to put the ball into the bottom right corner.
Jordi Alba put a first time ball into the box, and Messi latched onto it, slotting it into the back of the net to give Barcelona the lead.
