WATCH: Matheesha Pathirana bowls 175kmph delivery in U-19 Cricket World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka

Matheesha Pathirana bowls 175kmph delivery: The Sri Lankan speedster amazed one and all with one of his deliveries against India.

During the seventh match of the ongoing ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup between India and Sri Lanka in Bloemfontein, Sri Lanka fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana amazed when and all when one of his deliveries hit the 175kmph-mark in the first innings.

It all happened on what would have been the last delivery of the fourth over when Pathirana bowled a short delivery way down the leg-side. With India opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal leaving the ball, it was declared as a wide ball.

The speedometer showing 175kmph allured each one’s attention and rightly so. While there hasn’t been any official statement from the ICC regarding an error in the speedometer, a 17-year old pacer bowling at such a pace is practically implausible.

Apart from this delivery, Pathirana had previously gained eyeballs for his bowling action which is quite similar to veteran Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga. The slinging nature of Pathirana’s action is also enticing people’s interest towards him.

As far as the match is concerned, India defeated Sri Lanka by 90 runs after the latter were bundled out for 207 in 45.2 over in a 298-run target.

With bowling figures of 9-1-29-2, India seamer Akash Singh was the pick of their bowlers. Apart from Akash, Siddhesh Veer and Ravi Bishnoi also dismissed two batsmen each.

After Sri Lanka captain Nipun Dananjaya won the toss and invited India in to bat, India scored a formidable 297-4 in 50 overs on the back of individual half-centuries from Jaiswal (59), captain Priyam Garg (56) and wicket-keeper batsman Dhruv Jurel (52*).
