Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were involved in an infamous crash in Baku, one that caused both Red Bull drivers to retire, leaving Christian Horner and co. furious, as the crash severely impacted the team’s chances.
With the Red Bull duo qualifying 1-2 for the Mexico GP, the idea of a crash has once again come up.
The duo were asked about the Baku crash in the press conference post the Mexico GP qualifying.
Max said that he had already forgotten about Baku, with Ricciardo saying that ‘Well done Baku’.
They were asked by the journalist if they would be giving Christian Horner a heart attack by fighting on turn 1.
Ricciardo snatched pole away from Verstappen in Mexico, right at the end. Max had topped all three practice sessions and it seemed as if he would sweep away all contenders during qualifying as well.
And he was doing that until the final lap in Q3, where Ricciardo pipped him.
Hamilton qualified in P3, with Sebastian Vettel slotting in behind him in P4. Hamilton needs a 7th place finish to win his 5th world title in Mexico today.
Now, Vettel will have to dig deep and hope for a miracle today, as the Red Bulls have been extremely strong all weekend and will not allow him to get through.
Moreover, Hamilton and Mercedes too have been better than Ferrari and thus Vettel will find it extremely difficult to get past the three cars in front of him. His only chance of getting past them is if they suffer with some reliability issues.
