During the fifth match of the Super Four stage of the ongoing Asia Cup between India and Afghanistan at Dubai, stand-in captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was heard scolding Kuldeep Yadav in his usual witty self.
Earlier Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan had won the toss and put India in to field. It was at this point in time when this incident took place.
Mohammad Shahzad, Afghanistan’s wicket-keeper batsman, had started to play his natural hard-hitting game from the word go. His assault on the inexperienced Indian bowling line-up saw Dhoni left with limited option in the beginning. Perhaps, it was the pressure to stop a blazing Shahzad which saw nerves getting the better of Dhoni.
It is not the first time when Dhoni has made such a comment on the field. We have seen Dhoni giving lessons to younger players in such a comical manner. For all we know, it has become his standard way of conveying messages on the field.
In their allotted quota of 50 overs, Afghanistan ended up scoring 252-8. Shahzad top-scored for his team, scoring 124 (116) with the help of 11 fours and seven sixes. With bowling figures of 10-1-46-3, Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the Indian bowlers. Yadav was the second-best Indian bowlers, registering figures of 10-0-38-2.
