During the 32nd match of the ongoing ninth season of the Big Bash League between Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes at the Showground Stadium, Hobart Hurricanes spinner Qais Ahmad kicked the ball angrily after taking a catch to dismiss Sydney Thunder all-rounder Chris Morris.
It all happened on the second delivery of the 18th over when Morris’ attempt to hit an aerial shot off Hobart spinner Clive Rose saw him mis-timing the ball to Ahmad at long-on.
Having grabbed a simple catch, Ahmad didn’t shy away from expressing himself in the middle. With Morris changing the game for the hosts in the business end, Ahmad must be relieved to send him back to the pavilion.
Coming in to bat at No. 6 in the 15th over, Morris ended up scoring 17 (12) with the help of one four and one six. Chasing a 163-run target, Thunder sealed the chased in the last over. A 96-run opening partnership between Usman Khawaja (35) and Alex Hales (55) set the tone first up for Thunder.
After Sydney captain Callum Ferguson won the toss and chose to field, Hurricanes posted 162/6 in 20 overs. Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the eighth over, veteran Hobart batsman George Bailey top-scored for them with 43 (30) with the help of two fours and three sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-29-2, Sydney all-rounder Daniel Sams was the pick of their bowlers.
