Referee Fernanda Colombo produced a brilliant moment of hilarity that has gone viral over the weekend. Colombo was officiating in a friendly match in the Estrellas de Ecuador league when she called over Barcelona Sporting Club midfielder Kitu Díaz.

The 30-year-old referee put her hand in her pocket as if to reach for a card. While many thought she was about to flash the yellow, she instead pulled out a handkerchief to wipe her brow and grinned at the player who thought he was going to get booked.

Indecent proposal

The act went Viral and her sense of humor was widely praised. However, not everyone shared the same sentiment. Fernando Colombo revealed on Instagram that the on-field banter led to her receiving an ‘immoral sexual proposal’ by email.

Infelizmente esse ainda é o mundo real. 😞 I got this e-mail today which made me felt like a trash because it contains an imoral sexual proposal. I want to tell the world that I just want to do what I love which means working with football and journalism. Please, respect that! Recién he recebido este correo conteniendo una propuesta inmoral que me hizo sentir una basura. Lo único que quiero és poder trabajar con lo que amo, que és el fútbol y el periodismo. Que todos puedan respectar el camino que elegí para mi vida.

Colombo posted a screenshot of the indecent proposal. She was offered work “meeting clients” for at least “7 thousand” per encounter. Colombo wrote that it had left her feeling like “trash”.

“I want to tell the world that I just want to do what I love, which means working with football and journalism. Please respect that”, she wrote.

Colombo, who writes for Brazilian publication Metropoles, has officiated a number of games in Ecuador. She has also covered the Women’s World Cup in depth this summer.
