During the second day of the fourth Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Sydney, the hosts struggled big time as India posted 622-7 in 167.2 overs. Resuming their day from 303-4 in 90 overs, India batted for another 77.2 overs on Day 2, scoring 319 runs.
India might have lost Hanuma Vihari (43) in the first half of the day, but it didn’t affect their intentions of almost knocking Australia out of the match. After Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant stitched an 89-run partnership for the sixth wicket, the latter was joined by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Both the southpaws batted for 37.2 overs, scoring 204 runs in 37.2 overs at a run rate of 5.48. It was during this partnership that the Australian team seemed to have given up the hope of bowling out India. It was evident from their body language that they are awaiting India to declare the innings.
Indian eventually declaring the innings with 10 overs to go didn’t give much respite to Australia for their opening batsmen had to come out again to bat for the given time. Luckily for them, Pant dropped Marcus Harris off Mohammad Shami. Had he grabbed it, Australia’s day would have gone from bad to worse.
Australia ended Day 2 on 24-0 in 10 overs with Harris (19) and his opening partner Usman Khawaja (5) on strike.
Australia captain Tim Paine, who saw his decisions not generating any sort of impact throughout the day, ended up a hard day on a hysterical note as he was seen answering a phone call while addressing the media.
Leaving the thoughts of saving the match on the field, Paine spoke to the person on the call in a jolly mood. His conversation was an instant source of entertainment for all the media persons during the conference.

Don’t lose him Australia. With Smith and Warner back, him at the steering wheel world will look a lot better. An absolute classic bloke who actually appears to know where the line is.

That’s gold. Love Tim Paine as captain so different to the previous captains I grew up with having a laugh with opposition players and now journalists. Should be more of it.

Love this guy. Hope he’s around for a while, and isn’t a temporary captain. Once smith and Warner are back the team will fall in place. He’s had a rough couple of months but he’s definitely led the team well. Deserves a solid chance at captaincy.
