Watch Vincent Kompany’s emotional farewell speech to teammates after his last game with Manchester City

Watch Vincent Kompany’s emotional farewell speech to teammates after his last game with Manchester City. The speech was made after City won the F.A cup at Wembley.

For a club that is often teased for not having any legends, Manchester City finally have one now in Vincent Kompany. The Belgian joined the premiere league club back in 2008 and earned the captaincy three years later in 2011. City won their first league title in 44 years that season.

Manchester City have since won the premiere league four times and a lot of that has to do with the way Kompany has led the time. The Belgian, regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, has always led the team by example.

Earlier in May, Kompany had announced that he would leave the club in June once his contract expires. But before that Kompany had taken his team to a domestic treble; A feat that had never achieved before.

Manchester clinched the premiere league for the second year in a row. They had already won the league cup before. Their hopes for a maiden Champions league victory was squashed when they heartbreakingly lost a close match to Tottenham in the Quarters. This did not deter them however, as they went on to beat Watford 6-0 and completed the domestic treble.

After the match, his last in City Blues, he gave a heart-warming speech to his teammates, with whom he was to share the dressing room one last time. In the video, Kompany tries to power through the speech but his voice breaks as he tries to stay collected.

He says:

“I just want to say thank you for 11 years of experiences, of bad matches, good matches, everything.

“I’ve experienced everything with the club that I love. I’m so grateful.

“It’s not going to be my best speech because it’s the most emotional one I’ve ever written in my life but I’m glad this was the last game and I wouldn’t have wanted it any different.

“You guys are the best group of people I could have finished my City career with. I have gained new family members.

“I think you’ll realise by the end, when you get to this point in your career, the people you remember are those who were there in special moments. Everyone here is now part of my family.

“The challenge for you boys is to be even better. It’s difficult to say, you have just won the English treble, but you haven’t won the Champions League yet. That’s your goal now.

“You’ve got such a group of players, that can achieve anything they want, don’t ever let it slip. Before you know it, you will be doing a speech like me, crying, and then it’s the end of it. Trust me it goes that fast.

“So, let’s have a party, a good celebration. Thank you.”

The footage was filmed as part of Man City’s four-part mini-series which covered the final 30 days of last season where they become champions of England and FA Cup winners.

Vincent Kompany won the Premiere League four times. He also has two FA cups and four EFL cups in his kitty. The Belgian has now returned to the club he started his career with, RSC Anderlecht, as a player manager.
