Vince McMahon Zelina Vega

Zelina Vega is undeniably on her path to becoming a top talent in the women’s division. Although luck did not favor Vega at Backlash, she took Rhea Ripley to the limit. Her loss keeps her in the running to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion. Despite being a talented athlete, The member of LWO once had a controversial exit from WWE in 2020. Vega was fired for being in defiance of WWE’s strict rule that prevents wrestlers from using a third-party account as a means of side income.

The former women’s tag team champion was sent packing by Vince McMahon. And not just that, Vega was seemingly not even granted an exit meeting. Turns out, Vega was moonlighting on OnlyFans. Vega defied WWE’s strict policy and made a new account under a pseudonym.

The contents of her OnlyFans account offered cosplay, lingerie, swimsuits, and more exclusive content for a subscription fee of $30.

Vince McMahon fired Zelina Vega for having an account on OnlyFans

It’s no secret that insubordination is subject to termination in WWE. When WWE caught wind of Zelina Vega’s OnlyFans account, she was fired unceremoniously. WWE told Sports Illustrated that Zelina Vega’s expulsion was the result of her breaching her contract.

Vince McMahon reportedly threatened to take the violation of the policy very seriously. Vega’s expulsion served as a warning to other WWE superstars who were active on third-party sites.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Zelina Vega was escorted out of the Thunderdome. Then-Senior Director of Talent Relations, Mark Carrano, reportedly told Zelina that Vince wanted her gone.

However, the 32-year-old was then rehired in July 2021. This was the same year she became the Queen of the Ring. Zelina was also the first-ever woman in WWE to win the Queen of the Ring tournament. Furthermore, PWInsider reported that WWE officials were apologetic to Zelina Vega while offering her to return.

“WWE execs apologized to Vega and made her an offer to return. Eventually, she decided to go through that open door and signed back with the company.”

Interestingly, WWE fired Mandy Rose last year for the same reason. Rose’s contract with WWE was terminated before she made millions on FanTime.

Zelina Vega dedicated her match at Backlash to her late father

The WWE Universe saw a very emotional Zelina Vega in San Juan at Backlash. Vega made a spectacular entrance while being adorned with the Puerto Rican flag. Commentator Michael Cole was heard mentioning on TV that Zelina Vega was dedicating the match to her late father. Unfortunately, her father was one of the many casualties of the 9/11 terrorist attack in 2001.

Vega’s face said it all, as tears wouldn’t stop rolling down her cheeks. Taking to Twitter, Zelina thanked the fans in Puerto Rico.
