John Cena reportedly rejected Vince McMahon’s plans for a heel turn. The Cenation Leader has been a perenial babyface for most of his WWE run.

John Cena made a name for himself in the WWE as the Doctor of Thugonomics. He quickly went on to become a fan favourite and eventually turned face. Cena grew to become the biggest babyface in the company and never turned heel again much to the dismay of the WWE Universe.

However, it seems that the company did want Cena to flirt with the dark side again. However, Cena wasn’t pleased with the idea Vince McMahon had for him. While speaking on the We Watch Wrestling podcast, former WWE writer Matt McCarthy revealed Vince’s plans for Cena and why the Cenation leader turned it down.

John Cena reportedly rejected Vince McMahon’s plans for a heel turn

“Vince kept trying to figure out how do we do like a Bret Hart thing? Where he’s a heel in some places, but he’s a babyface in the rest of the places. Cena was like, ‘If I’m going heel, I want to go full heel.’”

Bret Hart was a heel in America. In Canada however, there was no bigger babyface than him. Vince looked to emulate a similar strategy for Cena. The 16-time World Champion however, didn’t want to half bake a heel turn.

Cena hasn’t been in the WWE since Wrestlemania 36 where he wrestled Bray Wyatt in a Firefly FunHouse Match. It has been rumored that he may make his long awaited WWE return at SummerSlam in a match against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.

WWE have confirmed the location for the Summer’s  biggest party. SummerSlam will take place on August 21, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
