WWE star Lana opens up on her struggle with depression and online bullying from toxic fans

WWE star Lana opens up on her struggle with depression, mental illness and online bullying from toxic fans she encounters on social media.

Lana began her career in the WWE as a manager to then boyfriend and now husband Rusev, who goes by Miro in the WWE. She has since become a full time in ring performer and is regularly featured on WWE TV. She even challenged for the RAW Women’s title in a losing effort very recently.

She is obviously not as good as those who have wrestled all their lives. However, that hasn’t stopped her from giving her best inside the squared circle. For some fans however, that isn’t good enough and they make sure that she knows about it.

“It’s been really hard,” she said on the latest WWE Chronicle Special. “Not having 300 days on the road, being at home, then all of a sudden no fans. Then, of course, like being with the person from the very beginning, like traveling with that person; being literally 24/7, being with that person and then that person is not there, it’s really hard. I don’t even know how sometimes I keep on pushing through.”

She then opened up on how the negative fan reaction to her was getting to her to the point that she had to ask her parents to pray for her.

“For me, what was really, really hard was, usually going to arenas and people boo you,” she said. “It’s something about the energy, you’re like, ‘oh, I’m in control of this,’ right? But then when all of a sudden, I don’t interact with any people whatsoever and I’m just at home and I post something and everyone is just so mean.

“I couldn’t handle it anymore, because that’s like my only interaction with human beings is my Instagram account or Twitter, and now everyone in comments are like, ‘you should be fired. Why are you not fired? You suck. You’re this. You’re that.’

“I remember, texting my parents and being like,’ please pray for me, my mental health is doing really bad, I’m really depressed. I just — I can’t take it anymore. I’m just… I’m so sad. Like, I don’t want to do anything.’

“Like, why even try? Why? It doesn’t matter. You work hard. You do this like you can’t post because everyone is going to tell you to go jump off a cliff and kill yourself and like you’re worth nothing. So it’s like, well, why?’”

Lana is part of the RAW Survivor Series team. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler qualified on the back of being the WWE Women’s tag team champions. Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke were also added to the team due to their unbeaten status at the time of the announcement.

Lana wrestled Lacey Evans, Peyton Royce and Nikki Cross in a fatal four way for the final spot and came out victorious to clinch her place in the team.

Survivor Series will take place on November 22, 2020 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
