Possible reason behind WWE trimming NXT roster with multiple releases. The WWE released 12 superstars from their contracts today.

The WWE have released several wrestlers from the company since Wrestlemania 37. The promotion continued with their chopping ways, only this tine, the talent released were not from the main roster but NXT instead, including many who were once integral to the development brand.

WWE released Bronson Reed, Bobby Fish, Leon Ruff, Tyler Rust, Jake Atlas, Mercedes Martinez, Asher Hale, Giant Zanjeer, Zechariah Smith, Kona Reeves, and Ari Sterling from their NXT contracts. While most releases on the main roster have been blamed on budget cuts, the house cleaning at NXT is reportedly due to a whole different reason.

Possible reason behind WWE trimming NXT roster with multiple releases

According to PW Insider, the WWE are planning a “overhaul” of the NXT product. There have been lots of backstage talks of repackaging the NXT brand and focussing on the younger talent.

“As Dave Scherer and I discussed on the We Don’t Need No Name Show this week, there has been lots of talk internally of major changes for the NXT brand including a new logo, new lighting, a focus on younger talents and a different format to the TV shows. This housecleaning tonight appears to be part of those changes.”

Despite the rise in NXT’s popularity over the years and the WWE insisting back in 2019 that it was a third brand, actions such as these serve as a reminder that the Black and Yellow brand, at the end of the day is still a developmental brand at the end of the day.

NXT has proven time and given that it can recover from the loss of big names and they will have to do it once again.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
