Reason behind Ric Flair asking for his WWE release. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer contacted Vince McMahon to be let go.

There has been another release in the WWE. This time it’s WWE legend and Hall of Famer Ric Flair. The 16-time World Champion has departed the company after reportedly requesting his release from WWE, which the company granted as they continue to let talent go.

Flair reportedly approached Vince McMahon himself and asked for his release from the promotion. His departure from the company comes after the release of Bray Wyatt, Jojo Offerman and many others who have been let go by in the months since Wrestlemania.

According to Fightful Select, Flair reportedly grew frustrated with certain booking decisions on WWE TV, and contacted McMahon directly to voice his issues. He requested to be released and was granted the departure, effective today.

The Nature Boy was last involved in a storyline with Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair on RAW earlier this year. The storyline was nixed following Evans’ legitimate pregnancy. Flair has since voiced his disdain for the storyline, admitting that it made him uncomfortable.

However, he agreed to do so because Vince convinced him that it would help get get Evans over in the program with Charlotte Flair. Although, the report states that the booking issues he didn’t like were fairly recent.

Following his departure from the company, his greatest rival Sting tweeted a tribute his way. The AEW Star took to Twitter and posted a clip of  a moment between himself and Ric Flair from Clash of the Champions 1988 in a match for the NWA World Heavyweight. He captioned it: “WOOOO!!!”
