WWE Hall of Famer talks Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels’ obsession with the WWE Championship

WWE Hall of Famer talks Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels’ obsession with the WWE Championship. The two were at the top of the company in the mid 90’s.

Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels are considered to be two of the greatest wrestlers to have ever laced a pair of boots. A lot of what wrestling is today can be attributed to their very own personalities and style of wrestling employed during their time at the top.

Hart and Michaels were not just rivals inside the squared circle but outside of it as well. Both performers wanted desperately to be the number one and saw the WWE title as a means to prove that. Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts however, had a different view to them.

While speaking to Perched On The Top Rope,he discussed the WWE Championship and  how it was merely a bookimg device rather than an actual judge of talent. He gave the example of Michales and Hart who forgot that and actually believed they had won the title on their own merit while adding that his own character never needed it.

“If you’ve got to that point, where you’re recognized and you are, then dude just go do your job. Come on man. I mean, let’s be honest, Bret and Shawn Michaels were the only two guys thought they won the title anyway. Everybody else knows different. So, we will leave it at that, man. And no disrespect to them, they both worked their butts off and truly loved the business, and Jake “The Snake” didn’t need [a title belt].”

Following Hogan’s departure, the WWE decided to build itself around Michaels and Hart until Hart moved to WCW. Following which HBK became the unsidputed top guy in the promotion until a certain Stone Cold Steve Austin rose the ranks to kickstart Wrestling’s most glorious period.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
