Despite the hush-money scandal, Vince McMahon retiring and returning, and whatnot, WWE has made record profits in the 12 months. In fact, the company’s stock prices have been at an all-time high since its recent merger deal with Endeavor Group. With business booming like this, it’s obvious that other companies will show interest. Well, a recent report believes Warner Bros. Discovery, who currently holds a TV deal with AEW, is interested in WWE.
The claim was made by James Andrew Miller during a recent conversation with Jimmy Traina of SI Media. In the past, Miller has served as the Executive VP of Original Programming for the USA Network. According to him, the premier global media and entertainment company is curious about the wrestling juggernaut.
People in Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly interested in WWE programming
Speaking on the show, James Andrew Miller shared his experience of attending WWE’s showcase of Immortals for the first time. He also talked about the whispers he heard about Warner Bros. Discovery being interested in WWE programming.
“I wouldn’t be surprised, despite the fact that money is such an issue for them, I wouldn’t be surprised if Warner Bros. Discovery wouldn’t like a slice of that WWE pie,” he stated
According to him, if WWE and Warner Bros. Discovery signs a TV deal, the latter would want to move RAW off Mondays to avoid competition. Though, when asked if WBD will add WWE to its existing programming or replace AEW, Miller stated:
“I don’t know, but I know there are people at Warner Bros. [Discovery] who are interested [in WWE].”
As per reports, the TV deals of WWE and AEW will end in the next few months. It will be interesting to see how the news deals of both wrestling promotions go. Though as of now, there’s no hint of WWE and Warner Bros. Discovery holding any kind of talks.
AEW and WBD are reportedly working to add a new 2-hour show Saturday nights
It appears Warner Bros. Discovery is happy with the way things are going with AEW right now. As per multiple dirt sheet reports, both companies are looking to launch a 2-hour show on Saturday nights. The news has been circulating ever since the rumors of CM Punk and AEW negotiating a return began.
The current assumption is that the new show [AEW Collision] will start airing on June 17. Reportedly, Tony Khan might also do a roster split to keep CM Punk and those who don’t want to work with him separate. Though as of now, there has been no such official confirmation from AEW’s side.
