Chris Jericho says AEW handily beat NXT in the Wednesday Night Wars
Jericho said that the Wednesday Night War was not what they wanted. He claimed that NXT were the one’s watching their show and that they were never really about the Gold and Black brand.
“We’ve never really worried about what NXT was doing. I know WWE NXT was watching our stuff during their show, but this was not a war that we were ever asking for. We were kind of thrust into it by proxy.”
Jericho also revealed that even if they didn’t participate in the competion willingly, they did want to win it; something Jericho claims they did decisively.
“The reason why we won it and won it so handily is we never worried about what anybody else was doing. We just worried about our own show. Of course we’re competitive. Yes, we wanted to beat NXT. We wanted to drive them screaming and yelling away from Wednesdays and we did that.”
With both shows on different days it will be interesting to see if AEW and NXT do well in the television ratings. Obviously both shows had overlapping fans, but was it significant enough to make a major difference?
