Eric Bischoff discusses issues with Matt Hardy during their time at TNA. The Elder of the Hardy Boyz had two runs with the promotion.

Matt Hardy became a household name due to his body of work during the Attitude Era and the Ruthless Aggression Era. Unfortunately, he was always overshadowed by his brother Jeff, whom the WWE clearly saw as the marketable of the two.

Matt would finally become the more popular Hardy Boy after creating the Broken Universe in TNA. He completely reinvented himself and became the talk of the business. As bitter as his end was with the promotion, it helped show people that he was more than capable of leading a promotion if given a chance.

Unfortunately, his first run with TNA was the exact opposite of that.

While speaking on his 83 Weeks Podcast Eric Bischoff claimed that Matt Hardy had just as many issues as Jeff in a different degree.

“He had his own issues. He was out of shape when he first got to TNA, he was horribly out of shape, embarrassingly bad,” Bischoff said. “The things that one would see on YouTube or social media would really make you wonder what the hell do [The Hardys] do in their free time. What drugs are those?

“There’s no other way to look at it. It was wacky s**t. I wasn’t a fan of Matt when he came into TNA because of that, he was inconsistent,” he continued. “I wasn’t a big fan of inconsistent performances; he was troubled as was Jeff to a different degree.

“Perhaps [Matt] wasn’t able to make headlines but it didn’t mean he didn’t have similar problems or issues. All I can tell you is that his behaviour, appearance and inconsistency led me to believe that he wasn’t healthy.”

Matt first signed with TNA in 2011. He was granted a World Championship and Tag Team Championship shot but came out short on both occasions. He was eventually released 6 months after joining them following a DUI arrest that occurred earlier that same day.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
