Vince McMahon, alongside being the biggest name in pro wrestling history, is also someone linked with controversies. From Hush Money Scandal to Montreal Screwjob, the former WWE chairman has faced backlash for multiple reasons in his decades-long career. In fact, one can make a long list of superstars who never received a deserving push under his reign. Now a WWE Hall of Famer has named a fan-favorite faction that could not impress Vince McMahon.
In the mid-2010s. WWE Universe saw a popular faction getting over among fans. Comprised of Rusev and Aiden English, the group was called Russey Day. However, in 2018, the faction was shut down out of nowhere. Recently, WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg discussed how the fan-favorite Rusev Day came to an end.
Vince McMahon scrapped Rusev Day faction because he didn’t like Aiden English
During the recent episode of the “Oh… You Didn’t Know” podcast, the Hall of Famer was asked whether Vince McMahon was a fan of the Rusev Day faction. Road Dogg, who was the lead writer of SmackDown Live back then, went on to reveal a strange story. The veteran claimed the group was so over with the fans.
However, one day, they were pushing Rusev Day, and the very next day, they were not. In fact, even he had no idea what went wrong with the fan-favorite faction. Moreover, Road Dogg was not comfortable saying anything as his blunt attitude has put him in trouble in the past.
Still, according to him, there was a reason why Vince McMahon shut down the idea of the Rusev Day faction. Road Dogg believes the former WWE Chairman wasn’t a fan of Aiden English. He stated:
“I’m not going to say anything because the last time I said something, I got a phone call… I don’t know if Vince [McMahon] was a fan of Aiden English.”
Members of Rusev Day are now working separately for two different wrestling promotions
On the September 18, episode of SmackDown, Aiden English betrayed Rusev putting an end to the famous group. He was then shifted to 205 Live where he worked as a commentator before getting released in April 2020. Right now, English is doing the same job for Impact Wrestling.
As far as Rusev is concerned, the former US Champion was released from the company in 2020. Later that year, he debuted in AEW as Miro where he went on to have a dominant TNT championship reign.
Nevertheless, just like many, it’s unfortunate that the popular faction got shut down by Vince McMahon for something unknown. However, now that Triple H is in control, fans can expect the faction to reform sometime in the future.
