WWE has a gigantic fan following in the United Kingdom, a fact that was proved last year in October. The company held its Clash At The Castle pay-per-view in Cardiff that sold over 62,000 tickets. And in less than 60 days, the nation will be hosting another big wrestling event. On July 1, WWE is going to be in the O2 arena of London for the 2023 Money In The Bank. The hype for the event is so big that all the tickets available were sold within a minute.
Well, in less than a year, this is the company’s second pay-per-view in the United Kingdom. In fact, 2023 is the first time in history that WWE has decided to do its Money In The Bank outside the United States. Fans have been wondering to know the reason why the event is being held internationally.
WWE President Nick Khan discusses the strategy behind Money In The Bank 2023 happening in London
At the recent Q1 earning call, WWE shed light on the record revenue generated through events in 2023 so far. The higer-ups also revealed the company’s increased TV viewership of both weekly flagship shows, Raw and SmackDown Live.
During the call, WWE CEO Nick Khan opened up about the decision of holding the 2023 Money In The Bank in London. He noted that the event is being hosted outside the US so that the buyers can see the product live.
“One of the reasons for the Money In The Bank event, July 1 at the O2 Arena in London, is so the buyers can see our product live…” he stated.
According to Nick Khan, it’s an easier way to make people understand sports entertainment instead of just articulating. He revealed that WWE is in talks with potential partners for its core content rights. And by hosting the 2023 Money in the Bank in London, they want to showcase what they believe in.
Discussing why the company decided to hold Money in the Bank in England’s capital city during WWE’s Q1 2023 earnings call, WWE President Nick Khan said:

If you talk about the fans in the US, they can see WWE’s shows and events through the streaming platform Peacock. However, the same is not the case in the United Kingdom. Other than Sky and NOW TV, the services are not available for fans.
WWE apparently is looking to host more international pay-per-views in the future
Well, WWE is not going to stop its international approach by hosting just the Money in the Bank in London. In 2023, events like Backlash (in Puerto Rico), Night of Champions, and Crown Jewel (in Saudi Arabia) are also on the list.
Moreover, according to Dave Meltzer, the Australian government has been in talks with WWE to host a major stadium show. Earlier this year in March, he, in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, reported that the said event might take place in Perth. Though as of now, there has been no official confirmation of the news.

Nevertheless, it seems WWE, through Money in the Bank 2023 in London, is exploring other streaming options. And considering the kind of booking the event so far, the company shouldn’t have any issues talking to would-be buyers.
