Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh has a special place in the hearts of Indian cricket fans all over the world.

The left handed batsman has had an incredible journey and is an inspiration to people beyond the game of cricket.

It is difficult to not have a soft spot for someone who has fought cancer and returned to play for his nation again.

Many people rightly believe that Yuvraj Singh returning to play international cricket must rank among the finest moments in Indian cricket history.

But there is no doubt that the real Yuvraj Singh, who at one point was one of the most exciting players in world cricket, never really came back post his battle with cancer.

Of course people will look back at 2011 as the finest moment in Yuvraj’s cricketing career.

But if you ever wanted to remember Yuvi, then you must go back to that period between 2005 and 2009 when no other batsman scored more runs that the southpaw.

In the last couple of years, there have been a few flashes of the old Yuvraj, as the left hander has shown glimpses of what he was capable of at his peak.

His 150 against England last year was almost like a tribute to the great man, as for 127 deliveries, Yuvraj seemed liked the Yuvraj of old again.

While that knock did guarantee him a spot in the Champions Trophy this year, his failure to make an impact in the tournament has cost him his place in the squad.

A lack of fitness coupled with his inconsistency with the bat has seen Yuvi fall down the pecking order for the national selectors.

Yuvi also rejected BCCI’s proposal to give him a farewell match against Sri Lanka earlier this month, showing us that he still feels he is good enough to play for India.

This is what Yuvi had to say about his chances of playing for his country again,

“I would like to tell that I am failing. I still fail. I failed the last three fitness tests but yesterday I passed my fitness test. After 17 years I am still failing,” Yuvraj Singh had quoted.

“I am still playing. I don’t know what format I am going to play. But I am pushing everyday as hard as I used to, may be harder than before because I am getting older. And I see myself playing cricket till 2019 and obviously take a call after that,” he had added further.
