3 Players which CSK should release

3 Players which CSK should release: The Sportsrush present before you three names which CSK should release before IPL 2020.

It was a slender margin of one run which snatched the IPL trophy from the three-time champions Chennai Super Kings. In vicinity of winning the title for the second time in a row, Super Kings flunked on the last ball and eventually loosened their grip on the trophy.

There is no shying away from the fact that IPL 2019 wasn’t the best of seasons for the Super Kings. Despite them finishing the season as runner-ups, CSK’s players didn’t really play according to their potential. Their home ground in Chepauk not assisting their batsmen further didn’t help their case.

“To be consistent next year, we will have to really think hard. It’s too early to say right now. Up next is the World Cup. That’s the first priority. After that, we will chat about CSK. Nothing against the bowlers, but the batsmen could’ve done better,” Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was quoted as saying during the post-match presentation after losing the final by 1 run.

While Dhoni hinted at taking time before thinking about CSK, you can go through the names of three players which we think Super Kings should release before IPL 2020.

3 Players which CSK should release

Ambati Rayudu

In 17 matches for CSK in IPL 2019, Ambati Rayudu scored 282 runs at an average of 23.50 and a strike rate of 93.06 including one half-century. While Rayudu’s average is still bearable, his strike rate is simply unacceptable for the T20 format.

While he thrived while opening the batting last season, him mostly batting at No. 4 this season saw him struggling for runs throughout the tournament. Perhaps, Super Kings can look to buy some dynamic young batsman to bat No. 4 for them in IPL 2020.

Shardul Thakur

Having dismissed eight batsmen in 10 matches at an average of 35.12, an economy rate of 9.36 and a strike rate of 22.50, right-arm pacer Shardul Thakur failed to assist fellow pacer Deepak Chahar. Neither successful in consistently taking wickets with the new ball nor restricting runs in the death overs, Thakur can be replaced before IPL 2019.

Murali Vijay

In the two matches which Murali Vijay played during IPL 2019, he scored 64 runs at an average of 32 and a strike rate of 104.91. One can argue that it can be harsh on Vijay for he has only played a couple of matches.

That being said, he doesn’t seem to fit in the scheme of things at Super Kings. With the team management continually backing their overseas opening batsmen, another quintessential opener in Vijay is unlikely to get a chance at the top of the order.

Since playing him in the middle-order doesn’t bring out the best out of him, there is not much sense in making him sit on the bench or just play for a couple of matches in the whole season.
