WATCH: Jasprit Bumrah passes emotional statement on Shikhar Dhawan getting ruled out of 2019 Cricket World Cup
Jasprit Bumrah passes emotional statement on Shikhar Dhawan: The Indian fast bowler was confident of Dhawan’s replacement doing well.
India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah recently opened up on opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan getting ruled out of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Dhawan had injured his thumb while batting against Australia in India’s second World Cup match.
“Obviously, it’s unfortunate. He [Dhawan] played a really good innings against Australia. He’s a very important member [of our team]. He’s been doing well for so many years. In ICC tournaments, his record is also very good,” Bumrah was quoted as saying while addressing the media post India’s net session at Southampton.
There is no hiding to the fact that the Indian team is bound to miss the southpaw. Other than just his record at the top of the order, what India will miss is Dhawan and vice-captain Rohit Sharma consistently providing the team with apt starts.

While Bumrah considered the development to be unfortunate, he spoke highly of Lokesh Rahul opening the batsman in Dhawan’s absence. While all-rounder Vijay Shankar had replaced Dhawan in the playing XI, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been included into the 15-man squad.
“We’ve got a lot of faith in our side. We’ve got a good side. We’re not worried about the changes. The people who have come in are equally good. They can take care of the situation. As you see, KL Rahul has also done well as an opener. It’s an unfortunate incident [that happened] but you have to move forward and keep going,” Bumrah added.
During India’s practice session at the Agaes Bowl today, Shankar was injured by Bumrah’s yorker. While he was seen in significant pain, there is nothing to worry about for the Indian team.
