Sarfaraz Ahmed catch vs New Zealand: The Pakistani captain’s diving catch to dismiss Ross Taylor was an apt reply to his critics.

During the 33rd match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between New Zealand and Pakistan at Edgbaston, Pakistan captain and wicket-keeper Sarfaraz Ahmed put on display an excellent fielding display to dismiss veteran New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor.

It all happened on the last delivery of the ninth over when Taylor outside edged a Shaheen Shah Afridi. In what wasn’t a straight forward catch, Ahmed leaped to his right to grab a one-handed stunner. Taylor, who came in to bat at No. 4 in the seventh over, ended up scoring 3 (8).

Having dismissed New Zealand opening batsman Colin Munro (12) in his previous over, Afridi picked his second wicket in only his third over. Taylor’s dismissal saw New Zealand getting reduced to 38/3 in nine overs.

Having lost their opening batsman cheaply, New Zealand would have wanted the senior duo of captain Kane Williamson and Taylor to provide the rescue act. With Taylor and his replacement in wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham (1) also departing cheaply, the Kiwis now once again look to Williamson to stand tall for them.

After Williamson won the toss and chose to bat, such a start wouldn’t be pleasing him. Both teams fielded an unchanged playing XI for this match.
