Virat Kohli and Mohammad Shami emulate Sheldon Cottrell’s famous salute celebration after his dismissal during IND vs WI 2019 World Cup match

India demolished the off-colour West Indian side in the match no. 34 of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, handsomely by 125 runs at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester to continue with their winning streak. However, with this loss, the ever entertaining Windies side became the third team after Afghanistan and South Africa to crash out of the World Cup.

Nevertheless, as is always expected from the West Indian ‘full of life’ players, they entertained the Cricketing fraternity yet again, adding spice to the exciting World Cup we have had so far. Be it Chris Gayle’s dance moves, Sheldon Cottrell’s military salute, or Carlos Brathwaite’s exploits with the bat versus New Zealand, the players made sure they gave us moments to savour for quite some time to come.

But, if one has to pick just one moment from the aforementioned, that has etched into the minds of countless fans, it has to be the Cottrell salute which has been emulated by fans of all age brackets throughout the World Cup so far.

Even the Indian players like Virat Kohli and Mohammad Shami tried to do the Cottrell salute, during the India vs West Indies match at The Old Trafford.

Sheldon Cottrell’s dismissal

It all happened during the 30th over of the second innings. The 5th delivery of the over bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal, caught Sheldon Cottrell right in front of the stumps at a personal score of 10 (8). Indian skipper Virat Kohli, and pacer Mohammad Shami gave Cottrell the taste of his own medicine as both of them replicated the famous salute post the dismissal to hand Cottrell the ‘salute send-off ‘.

Players around Shami (who did it first) including Vijay Shankar and Virat Kolhi had quite a laugh post the salute, while Virat Kohli too made sure he himself tried it out in front of the jam-packed Manchester crowd.
