Varun Chakravarthy concedes 25 runs in first over

Varun Chakravarthy concedes 25 runs in first over: The mystery spinner was hit to all parts of the ground in his first over vs KKR.

During the sixth match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab at Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Sunil Narine welcomed debutant Varun Chakravarthy by brutally attacking him at will.

Bought by Punjab at a whopping price of INR 8.4 crore, Chakravarthy missed the first match due to a shoulder niggle. After being included into the playing XI in Kings XI’s second match tonight, Chakravarthy was given the new ball alongside Mohammed Shami, who conceded a solo run in the first over.

After Chris Lynn ran a single off Chakravarthy on the first ball, Narine showed no mercy as he cleared his front foot to hit the second ball down the ground for an amazing six. Attempting another hard-hitting shot on the following delivery, Narine hit the ball straight back to the bowler. With the bowler failing to latch on to the ball, the batsmen ran a couple of runs.

Giving no impression of easing off on the 27-year old bowler, Narine hit a four through the leg side on the fourth delivery of the over. By this time, the bowler seemed to have succumbed to the pressure of playing in such a competitive tournament.

Narine introduced the slog sweep to Chakravarthy as he hit the penultimate delivery of the over for a monstrous six over mid-wicket. The last ball of the over saw Narine hitting an outside-the-leg-stump delivery for another six over backward square leg.

All in all, Narine and Lynn scored 25 runs in Chakravarthy’s first over in the cash-rich league. While there was a lot of hype around the debutant, his registered a start which was at contrast with all said about him. Watch the full video below:
