KL Rahul injury update: BCCI comes up with a recent development on KL Rahul’s injury while fielding vs England at Edgbaston
During the 38th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between England and India at Edgbaston, Team India’s opening batsman KL Rahul, had injured himself in his attempt to take a catch at the long-on fence.
It all happened during the 16th over of the first innings. England were off to an explosive start, as their openers- Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy, stitched together a 160-run partnership for the opening wicket in just over 22 overs. Jonny Bairstow (111 off 109) hit his maiden century of the ongoing World Cup and looked pretty dangerous, until Ravindra Jadeja took a blinder of a catch off Kuldeep Yadav, to stop his scoring juggernaut.
Similarly, in Bairstow’s bid to go for another big shot at the long-on fence, KL Rahul, sensing a possible chance to pull off a backward running catch near the boundary, fell backwards as the ball went over him.
He soon left the field at the drinks break and appeared to be in significant pain near his back area. Ravindra Jadeja replaced him in the process.
KL Rahul injury update
As per the BCCI, Rahul’s condition is being assessed and should be back on the field. “He is being assessed and treated. He is expected to be back,” the statement from the team management read.
As far as his chances of opening the innings is concerned, the third umpire has ruled the 27-year-old’s as an external one. Thus, he can bat or field as any point in time during the game.
