Shaun Marsh replacement: Who has replaced Marsh in 2019 Cricket World Cup?
Shaun Marsh replacement: The Australian middle-order batsman has been ruled out of the tournament with a fractured forearm.
Australia middle-order batsman Shaun Marsh has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 due to a Pat Cummins delivery fractured his forearm. It was Australia coach Justin Langer who confirmed the development.
“Shaun Marsh has had scans on his right forearm after being struck while practicing in the nets at training today. Unfortunately, the scans have revealed Shaun has suffered a fracture to his forearm which will require surgery.
“This is obviously shattering news for Shaun and the squad. Throughout this tournament, his spirit, professionalism and the way he has competed has been typically outstanding. We are right behind Shaun in his recovery and rehabilitation,” Langer was quoted as saying.
Having lost the No. 3 spot to Usman Khawaja initially, Marsh still played a couple of ODIs in the tournament scoring 23 and 13 against Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively.
In what seemed to have been a tough session for the batsmen, even Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was hit on the forearm by a Mitchell Starc delivery. However, Langer quashed “any serious damage” with respect to Maxwell and was hopeful of him playing against South Africa tomorrow.
“Glenn Maxwell also underwent scans after he was struck on his right forearm in the nets. The scans have cleared Glenn of any serious damage and we’ll continue to monitor him over the coming days. We are hopeful he will be fit to perform for us on Saturday against South Africa,” Langer said.
Shaun Marsh replacement
As far as Marsh’s replacement, Langer announced that middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb has been recalled into the side after missing the original squad by a very small margin.
“We have made the decision to call up Peter Handscomb to replace Shaun in our World Cup Squad of 15. Pete [Handscomb] is a like-for-like player, in terms of batting in the middle order, and he performed very well for us during our recent tours in India and the UAE,” Langer concluded.
Shaun Marsh has suffered a fracture to the forearm which requires surgery & has been replaced by Pete Handscomb in the squad. Glenn Maxwell was also struck in the forearm at training & has escaped serious injury, although he is being monitored. Should play in #AUSvSA #CWC19

It is worth mentioning that Handscomb is currently in England playing for Australia A. In four matches on the tour, Handscomb has registered scores of 64, 28* and 57. Since making his comeback into the squad against India earlier this year, Handscomb has scored 479 runs in 13 ODIs at an average of 43.54 and a strike rate of 98.15 including a century and three half-centuries.
