IPL could soon be extended to 10-team competition: There are reports of the IPL organizers looking at the possibility of a significant expansion.
Indian Premier League organizers and franchise owners are supposed to have met in England on the sidelines of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. It is believed that the meetings have been attended with respect to adding two more teams in the cash-rich tournament.
Whether new teams will be included in the upcoming season of the World Cup or not is not known at this point in time but the development calls for an intriguing update. If it reaches fruition, it has it in it to become successful on several front for the tournament.

It is worth mentioning that BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) had included a couple of teams in 2010 but contrasting reasons saw them facing axe from the tournament in the subsequent years. In 2016, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions were included to replace the suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.

In a recent interview with PTI, a team official who attended the meeting talked about the happenings. “We discussed increasing the number of teams but it was an informal discussion. Anyway the teams don’t have the authority to decide on the matter, the BCCI will have to take a call but we are open to the idea,” he said.

If the BCCI become successful in making a 10-team competition a reality, what is likely to be a concern for the BCCI is scheduling. The inclusion of two more teams will call for more matches and the same will subsequently call for more days required from the busy international calendar.
