Virat Kohli reveals team environment
Post India’s exit in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, rumours of a rift between Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma were rife in the media. As recent as yesterday, a CoA (Committee of Administrators) member opened up on no rift in the Indian team.
While Kohli didn’t specifically talked about any rift, he didn’t shy away from discussing the team environment. The Indian captain laid emphasis on treating everyone equally in the team. “The culture of scolding people isn’t there in the change room now. As friendly as I am with Kuldeep [Yadav], I am the same with MS [Dhoni].
“The atmosphere is such that anyone can say anything to anyone. I am like walking up to people and telling them ‘listen, I have committed these mistakes, make sure you don’t do them'”, Kohli said.
Having played international cricket for more than a decade now and especially the manner in which he has played, Kohli further disclosed how he suggests the younger lot of Indian players.
“I’ll talk to them like, ‘this is where you are heading and this is where you have to head. These are the kind of things you should be doing. You’ll regret not correcting those things early like I did. I don’t want you to waste two-three years of your career. You have to play more than what you have played'”, Kohli added.
