Sourav Ganguly advocates for Virat Kohli making his preference for India Coach
Sourav Ganguly advocates for Virat Kohli: Former Indian captain spoke in favour of the current Indian captain at a recent event.
India captain Virat Kohli’s comments on being asked about his preference of head coach haven’t gone down well in the media. While Kohli didn’t say anything offensive and merely answered what was asked to him in a press conference before leaving for West Indies, his comments are being perceived in an unusual manner.
“The CAC hasn’t contacted me yet. If they want my opinion, I’ll go and speak to them. With Ravi [Shastri] Bhai, we share a great camaraderie, and will definitely be very happy if he continues. But I haven’t been contacted so far,” Kohli had mentioned.

“Captain’s opinion doesn’t bother us…”
Among the many experts and former cricketers who voiced their opinion on Kohli’s comments was former India batsman and a member of CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) Anshuman Gaekwad. The 66-year old had laid emphasis on following the procedure and getting deeply affected by Kohli’s words.
“We have to go with an open mind. There are interviews to be conducted. Lot of people from India and abroad have applied. We have to go there and assess things. The captain can say anything. It doesn’t bother us. We are a committee. That’s his opinion and the BCCI takes a note of it, not us,” Gaekwad had said.
I wasn’t talking specifically about Virat. I can understand that if you are asked a question, you answer it but the moment the question was asked, somebody should have said that the selection process is on and so, it wouldn’t be right for him to answer it.

Sourav Ganguly advocates for Virat Kohli
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has come in Kohli’s support saying that the 30-year old cricketer has the right to say with respect to selecting a new coach. “He [Virat Kohli] is the captain so, he has got the right to say,” Ganguly was quoted as saying on the sidelines of the prize distribution ceremony at a recent event.
Being asked about Gaekwad’s comments, Ganguly refrained from passing a statement on him. “Every individual is different so I cannot comment,” Ganguly said.
