Usman Khawaja's brother being investigated for counter terrorism

Usman Khawaja’s brother being investigated for counter terrorism: Arsalan Khawaja has been accused of a ‘Notebook’ Terror case.

Australian batsman Usman Khawaja’s brother Arsalan Khawaja has been accused of a ‘Notebook’ terror case and is currently being investigated regarding the same in Sydney.

As per reports in Ten Daily, the home in which Arsalan Khawaja lives with his parents was raided in a bid to find any evidence. The raid was carried out after the police found terrorism “hit list” written in a notebook at the University of New South Wales.

Mohamed Nizamdeen, owner of the notebook, is supposedly not believed to be the person to write the text inside the notebook. It is worth mentioning that the notebook makes references to former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, former Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and the Sydney Opera House.

Arsalan and Nizamdeen are colleagues at the University of New South Wales. According to the report in Ten Daily, Tariq Khawaja informed that police arrived at the family’s Westmead home this week, armed with a search warrant. However, he laid emphasis on not worrying about anything.

“They have their job to do. There’s nothing to worry about,” he was quoted.

“He [Nizamdeen] is his colleague. He works with him. I have no idea about this. Sorry, I can’t discuss this,” Tariq Khawaja said on being asked about any connection of his son with Nizamdeen.

Although the investigation is currently on, no charges have been made as of now.

On the other hand, batsman Usman Khawaja has sustained an injury which might rule him out of the upcoming Test series against India. In the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan, Khawaja was the highest run-scorer, amassing 229 runs in two Test matches at an average of 76.33 and a strike rate of 46.73.

With not many Australian batsmen being among the runs, Australian team management would be hoping for Khawaja to attain fitness as soon as possible.
