WATCH: Jonathan Tattersall’s throw hits Keshav Maharaj behind left thigh in Durham vs Yorkshire Vitality T20 match
Jonathan Tattersall’s throw hits Keshav Maharaj: The Yorkshire wicket-keeper batsman hit their left-arm bowler unintentionally.
During the North Group match of the ongoing Vitality T20 Blast between Durham and Yorkshire at Chester-le-Street, Yorkshire wicket-keeper Jonathan Tattersall accidentally hit left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj behind his left thigh.
It all happened when an opposition batsman missed an attempt to sweep Maharaj. With the batsmen trying to sneak in a single, Tattersall rushed in to pick the ball and throw it at the non-striker’s end.
Expecting Tattersall to hit the stumps directly, Maharaj didn’t reach behind the stumps. In what was a horrible throw from the 24-year old wicket-keeper, it ended up hitting Maharaj behind his thigh.
The instant reaction of the bowler rubbing the affected area spoke highly of the pain caused to him. While doing the same, Maharaj also started running in pain.
Talking about the match, Durhan captain Peter Handscomb had won the toss and put the visitors in to bat. On the back of captain Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s 12th T20 half-century, Yorkshire scored 146/6 in 20 overs. Before getting out in the 17th over, Kohler-Cadmore ended up scoring 52 (42) with the help of two fours and a six.
While Durhan fast bowler Nathan Rimmington’s bowling figures of 3-0-16-3 saw him restricting Yorkshire to a mediocre total, none of their batsman put on display an equivalent performance in the batting department. With them getting all out on 132 in 19 overs, Yorkshire won the match by 14 runs. With bowling figures of 4-0-11-5, off-spinner Jack Shutt was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.
