Steve Smith-Jonny Bairstow Controversy: Twitter reactions after English wicket-keeper fumes at Smith for patting the ball away.
Ashes are always surrounded by controversies, and yet again it has increased another one in the tally after Steve Smith and Jonny Bairstow were involved in a controversial scene at the 2nd day of the 2nd Ashes test.
The Australian Batsman is in a sensational form and have already scored a ton to acquire a comfortable lead in the first innings of the game.
On the other hand, England were trying hard to end the marvelous innings by Smith, and in the 76th over, Ben Stokes delivered a ball on a good length and angling back into the right-hander, too close to chop, but Smith still does it- off the bottom edge and bounced over the top of off-stump.
Smith followed it right through and then pats it towards Bairstow – perhaps out of frustration, perhaps trying to play mind games, Bairstow has a word or two – but nothing can rile Smith – at least in this series.
In the end, no run, more boos from the Old Trafford crowd – more funky things from Smith. The English wicket-keeper was highly angry with the actions of Smith.
Additionally, it is argued that Steve Smith should be declared out for hitting the ball twice, as he patted the ball away, a clear obstruction. However, the Australian stays on the field despite all of it.
The game resumed, and England need to compensate the previous two day lost through batting, as the bowling has been underwhelming.
