Cricket Australia announce multiple super overs in case of a tied final in the BBL and the WBBL
Cricket Australia announce multiple super overs in case of a tied final in the BBL and the WBBL following the controversy in the recently concluded World Cup.
England won the World Cup at home in the summer, continuing the tradition of home teams lifting the prestigious cup for the 3rd time in a row. However, unlike India and Australia before them, England failed to win it emphatically.

England had two chances to beat New Zealand on the same day; yet there was little separating the two at the end of 102 overs. England were crowned the champions due to a weird rule that gave them the advantage; One that prioritized superior boundary count in the match.
It is fair to say, that the ICC had no way of knowing what we know now. However, Cricket Australia has learnt from the incident. They are now taking measures to avoid such an occurrence in their domestic tournament.

CA have announced the employment of several Super Overs, should the six balls fail to decide a winner. The process will continue until a clear winner is chosen of the two. The change in rule will be implemented in the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
The WBBL04 Semi-Final between the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades gave us valuable insight into the feelings of teams and fans towards Super Overs,” CA’s Head of Big Bash Leagues Alistair Dobson told cricket.com.au.
“We hope that allowing for multiple Super Overs in WBBL and BBL Finals will provide our teams and fans with the best possible experience. We look forward to another competitive season for both leagues and believe we have a strong system in place should a nail-biting knockout match arise,” he added.
This new regulation allows for multiple super overs. However, in the matters of “unavoidable time restraints” such as venue regulations and broadcast constraints, the team that finishes higher in the table will be crowned the champions.
