Glenn Maxwell eyes at Mankading: The Victorian all-rounder was ready to go the controversial but legal way to get wickets in Melbourne.

During the seventh match of the ongoing Marsh Cup between Victoria and Queensland at the Junction Oval, Victoria all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s hilarious response on how to get a wicket left both himself and the commentators in splits.

It all happened in the 22nd over of Queensland’s innings when their opening batsmen in Sam Heazlett and Usman Khawaja were in the middle of a potential match-winning 185-run opening partnership.

Talking to the commentators while fielding near the boundary, Maxwell said “Maybe a Mankad” on being asked about how to dismiss either of the two batsmen.

On the back of captain Khawaja’s 13th List A century, Queensland posted 322/9 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. Having won the toss and chose to bat, Khawaja scored a brilliant 138 (126) with the help of 16 fours and a six to prove his decision right.

Apart from Khawaja, Heazlett scoring 88 (86) with the help of 11 fours and a six came as a major contribution for the visitors. With bowling figures of 10-0-56-4, Victorian fast bowler James Pattinson was the pick of their bowlers.

Losing wickets from the first over itself, Victoria have lost nine wickets and are nowhere near to the target. Maxwell, who came in to bat at No. 6 in the eight over, could only score 10 (17) with the help of two boundaries.

Senior batsmen in Marcus Harris (0), captain Peter Handscomb (7) and Nic Maddinson (0) getting out cheaply further didn’t help the hosts. Having registered bowling figures of 10-0-25-4, pacer Mark Steketee was the pick of the bowlers for the visiting team.
