Frank Lampard names new Chelsea vice-captain and explains the reason behind why he made the decision.
Chelsea were expected to flounder under Frank Lampard. They had after all just been hit by the transfer ban and Eden Hazard, their best player had left them to pursue his dream move. To make matters worse, the 4-0 drubbing at Old Trafford shattered any confidence the most ardent of fans harboured.

However, the Blues have since found their feet under Frank Lampard. He has cultivated a cultural change within the club and has taken advantage of the transfer embargo to hand opportunities to youth players who would have otherwise been neglected.
He has carefully embraced youth with experience to create a Chelsea side that are beginning to already look better than the team they were last season with Maurizio Sarri.
One of the players who has benefitted tremendously from Lampard’s appointment is Jorginho. The Italian was marginalised in the Chelsea outfit last season and looked to have lost his way with the blues. He has however, redeemed himself under Lampard and has impressed his new boss.
In fact, he has managed Lampard so much that the Chelsea legend has decided to make the 27-year old, Chelsea’s new vice-captain.
Frank Lampard names new Chelsea vice-captain; Explains his decision
Frank Lampard praised Jorginho’s influence on the team both on and off the field while confirming his appointment as the Vice-captain.
He said:
‘Yes, Jorginho is vice-captain as it stands. ‘Azpi [Azpilicueta] is captain, that was clear at the start of the season, and I think his professionalism and his career here speaks for itself. ‘And Jorginho, I keep talking about him as a character, and he’s a driver. I think it’s very evident to see on the pitch. So that’s the situation as it stands.’
Lampard also praised Jorginho for very quickly learning English:
‘It’s obviously important. I think we always try here to push that along as soon as players come in because communication is key, on and off the pitch, in the dressing room. ‘He crosses the borders, if there are any. It’s easy to come in and stay within your groups and nationalities, and Jorginho doesn’t. He’s a driver, on and off the pitch.’
