David Warner gets reprieve: As luck favoured him today, the Australian opening batsman remained unbeaten throughout the series.

During the third T20I of the ongoing Sri Lanka’s tour of Australia in Melbourne, Australia opening batsman David Warner received a lucky reprieve after the bails didn’t fall despite the ball hitting the stumps not once but twice.

It all happened on the second delivery of the 15th over when Warner was cramped for room and failed to pull a Lahiru Kumara delivery. It was after hitting the batsman that the ball went on to hit the stumps. While Warner eventually tried to stop the ball, his good fortune had already done the same for him.

Making optimum use of the reprieve, Warner went on to score his 15th T20I half-century and third of this series. Chasing a 143-run target, Warner scored 57* (50) with the help of four fours and a six as the hosts sealed the chase in the 18th over.

The southpaw has become the first batsman to remain unbeaten in a three-match T20I series. Having scored 217 runs at a strike rate of 147.61 including a century and two half-centuries, Warner has been declared as the “Man of the Series”.

After Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and put Sri Lanka in to bat, the visitors ended up scoring a below par 142/6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.
