Extra TV umpire likely to check no-balls: The IPL Governing Council is likely to implement a new rule to monitor no-balls.

The IPL Governing Council was scheduled to meet today to discuss new rules (if any) and other details regarding the next season of the Indian Premier League.

It is worth mentioning that the meeting was the first one to be headed by former India batsman Brijesh Patel, who was recently elected as the head of the Governing Council.

While there is no confirmation regarding the start date of IPL 2020, its auction is slated to be conducted on December 19 this year.

Extra TV umpire likely to check no-balls in IPL 2020

The biggest development coming out of the IPL Governing Council meeting is that an extra TV umpire is likely to be used to monitor no-balls in IPL 2020. This umpire will be in addition to the two on-field umpires and the third and fourth umpire present during the match.

A member of the governing council also confirmed that they are trying to first experiment the rule in the upcoming season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy starting from November 8.

The decision to take assistance from technology has come on the back of on-field umpires making frequent errors during the last edition of the tournament. An error committed during a Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians match had it in it to even affect the result of a match.

“We are playing at the IPL level and not playing club cricket. The umpires should have had their eyes open. That is a ridiculous call at the last ball. If it is a game of margins, I don’t know what is happening. They should have been more sharp and careful out there,” RCB captain Virat Kohli was quoted as saying after losing the match.

In another similar incident from last season, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni entered the ground from the dugout to argue with the umpire after he committed a no-ball-related error.
