He arrived at Chelsea in 2004 and has since managed the likes of Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United. You can now add Tottenham to that list. After announcing that long time-manager Mauricio Pochettino had been sacked, Spurs dropped a bombshell by announcing that Jose Mourinho has been handed the reigns of the club.
Mourinho has expressed excitement in the quality of the side and has claimed that this was what attracted him to the job. However, in the past, Mourinho has not thought very highly of the club in the past. Today we will look at the 2 times, Jose Mourinho has mocked Tottenham.
#2) They don’t win many
Jose Mourinho’s travels had taken him to Manchester where he became United’s manager. He had just won the Europa League with the side and have taken them to a second-place finish. However, instead of building on that success, the club went on a downslide losing two matches on the trot; One of them being a 3-0 loss to Tottenham.
Jose Mourinho had then made the famous claim that finishing 2nd with Manchester United was one of his greatest achievements in football. He would go on to brag about all his other achievements with other teams in different countries but was bought back to earth after a reminder of the chants Spurs fans had directed towards him.
Spurs fans chanted ‘You’re not special anymore’ and ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ at Mourinho all through the match. However, Mourinho was not going to take the comments lightly and hit back at the fans saying:
“Yeah but they didn’t have that song when we beat them at Wembley a couple of months ago,” Mourinho bragged. “Was a cup final they had a big dream to go, a title they had a big dream to win, because they don’t win many. In that night at Wembley the United fans were singing ‘the special one’ and of course they were not singing that.”
