WATCH: Glenn Phillips switch-hits pull off Matthew Bacon in The Ford Trophy
Glenn Phillips switch-hits pull off Matthew Bacon: Auckland’s batsman scored his career-best List A score against Otago.
During a league match of the ongoing The Ford Trophy between Auckland and Otago in Lincoln, Auckland batsman Glenn Phillips put on display an innovative shot after he switch-hit a pull off Otago pacer Matthew Bacon.
Phillips taking guard a foot outside his leg-stump had called for him playing an unorthodox shot off the Bacon delivery. With the bowler bowling a short delivery outside the off-stump, Phillips brought out an outstanding stitch-hit pull over the off-side boundary.
After Auckland captain Craig Cachopa won the toss and chose to bat, his team posted a formidable 310/5 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. It was a match-winning 235-run stand for the second wicket between Martin Guptill and Phillips which powered Auckland to a 300+ total.
Opening the batting with Colin Munro (10), Guptill scored a brilliant 117 (130) with the help of seven fours and three sixes before getting out in the 45th over.
Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the fifth over, Phillips ended up scoring 156 (135) with the help of 16 fours and three sixes. In what was Phillips’ fourth List A century, it was also his career-best score in the format.
Chasing a 311-run target, Otago were bundled out for 213 in 40.2 overs. Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the first over itself, Neil Broom top-scored for Otago with 66 (84) with the help of four fours and two sixes. With bowling figures of 7-0-28-2, Benjamin Lister was the pick of the bowlers for Auckland.

Guys, can you all take a moment to appreciate Glenn Phillips taking a guard a foot outside leg stump and then switch hitting a pull shot for six. Thanks. pic.twitter.com/GSvJ0mWNOs

Play by play: he tried to lure the bowler into bowling a yorker on the stumps, and shaped for the ramp. The bowler didn’t fall for it, went short and outside off, good move. But this guy reverse swats it, somehow, for six, somehow.
WHAT!

watching, waiting, for the first “yorker, should ‘av bowled a yorker!” comment….
